As the author's grandson, I cannot hide my pride that my grandfather has given himself the patience and dedication to make a work of such magnificence for literature and culture in general that it exalts our country in many ways.
Furthermore, that this Poetic Anthology is the most important literary work in the History of Chile, qualified by the National Library as a Bibliographic Jewel, pleasantly forcing me to spread it without measure to all poetry lovers.
This adds to the mystique that my family has historically assumed and contributed from time immemorial, in various causes of material and cultural progress with the nation, valuing and giving opportunities to simple people to improve their lives. Giving them a space of expression such as this work has allowed them to immeasurably promote writers, especially isolated from remote provincial places, which at that time were great unknown, taking them to spheres of national and even international recognition, leaving our country with an image of cultured people of great poets who inspire respect.
These poets were the pioneers of our literature, forged from the geographic isolation with our capital and at the same time distant from the European cities, from the precarious communications and libraries of yesteryear and inspired by the undeniable beauty of our blessed land.
From Selva Lírica or Lyrical Jungle, great unknown people of the time flourished, achieving a result of eleven National Prizes, a Nobel Prize in Literature forging another breed of new thinkers who were nurtured and learned from this work to create their own.
Here many poets were born who never before had the possibility to publish their works, poets who were inspired by the beauty of our people and our land: fields, mountains, coves and islands, expressing their feelings, their emotions and their identity through poetry. .
They were other times, very different, a golden age where feelings, nostalgia, the inspiration of pure souls who bequeathed us a country with an education based on respect predominated.
But for the authors things were rosy, because knowingly, from the beginning, the work was strongly criticized by its detractors, by those writers who were not well evaluated, many, prominent characters who were displaced by unknown provincial people from remote rural zones.
Finally, Selva Lírica triumphantly prevailed in Chilean literature by being required as a reference and school of poetry by the most seasoned writers to consolidate their styles.
There are many successes, one of them was the correct prediction at that time, highlighting that Gabriela would be praised as the best Spanish-speaking lawyer, achieving 28 years later nothing less than the Nobel Prize with the merit of also being the first Hispanic-American woman.
For later poets and thinkers, this book served as an inspiration as a learning and guidance tool to forge their styles, as Pablo Neruda points out in his work "I confess that I have lived".
The corollary was a consequence of the impact and significance of "Selva Lírica" in the History of Chilean Literature, to the point that the Directorate of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DIBAM) headed by its then president Mrs. Marta Cruz Coke classified the work as a "Bibliographic Jewel".
